One Day at SxSW

by Jeff Strunk on Mar 17 2010

It started as SxSWait in Line, but it got better quickly.

Jessi and I started the SxSW day at 12:30 waiting in line for Fader Fort wristbands. That took more than 20 minutes. Then we waited to get in. Fortunately, Brian Stage saved us be getting to Shangri'La a few blocks away.

Brian, Jessi, and Jeff at Shangri'La There was no line at Shangri'La. We drank a couple of tasty Brooklyn Lagers and ate some mushroom tacos. We talked to a non-practicing lawyer who couldn't comprehend mushroom tacos. The music reminded me a little bit of Vampire Weekend. The atmosphere was good though.

At 2:30pm or so, we headed to Emo's for the Brooklyn Vegan Day party. We had to wait in line again. The music was awful. It was very screamy. They had run out of the free Magic Hat beer, but they still had free sweet tea vodka and vegan "tacos in cups." Those things were tasty enough, but nothing was keeping us there.

Brian, Jessi, and Jeff at Gingerman We went over to the Gingerman. I think that is our favorite pub right now. I ran into my old friend Bruce Mitchell from DRK who was playing banjo there. His band was a lot of fun.

Then we went to visit Patricia Lew who was working at Coyote Ugly. I found out that Bass with green food coloring does not turn green. The irish car bomb is a very tasty drink though. Patricia was very busy. I'm sure she made a lot of money today.

We ended the day at the Dog & Duck's St. Patrick's Day party. I was very happy to hear Li'l Cap'n Travis play. Jessi and I danced. Mike, Patrick and Marie showed up and enjoyed the band with us. Jessi left early, and I left after they finished playing.
